Late February marked Carnaval in Tilburg: a time when the south of Holland (and some neighbouring countries) collectively go crazy. In Holland large numbers of people dress up in the most outlandish costumes and head out to the streets to celebrate. In this year’s celebrations we saw all sorts, from toddlers dressed in bear suits and cowboy costumes to a full Mad Hatter’s tea party.

It’s hard to believe that we’ve been out of Australia for three months already! Since we last wrote there’s been a smorgasbord of new experiences including a great holiday in England (more on this in a later post), a visit to the Logos Hope OM Ship (where we bumped into people we knew from Adelaide), a raft of frustrating run-ins with bureaucracy and work work work. Spring is also in the air which means we’re coming into some great weather and long days; wherever you look there are carpets of flowers popping up out of the ground, spectacular! Of course I’ve been dedicated in my Dutch snack food research, and Lex is throwing herself into learning the art of ironing and window washing… read on for the details!
It’s only been a week since we left Australia but it’s been full of new experiences. We’ve had some amazing times in Thailand, getting to Europe, bureaucracy and some Dutch experiences.
